Tutoring
Tutoring Rate
I believe children in all families – prince, professor, plumber, or plasterer – deserves a fair chance to grow in their skills and capabilities.
I offer two pricing scales:
1. For students that are under financial hardship, I am happy to negotiate a suitable rate. Depending on the hours selected per month, that might be between 150-200 South African Rands per hour. This is truly about as inexpensive a price that I can offer. My belief is that it is worth what is being offered. I can try to make things less expensive for certain people under certain conditions – but talk to me first.
2. For students and families that are not under financial hardship, my rate is 250 South African Rands per hour. This rate might be adjusted after discussion with parents and the student if need be. My intent is not to place a difficult financial burden on anyone but at the same time to price competitively. The average hourly salary for a tutor in Canada with a Masters degree is approximately $50.00 CND/hour. My rate is under $20.00 CND/hour.
As mentioned above, I love tutoring and I love helping struggling students. I will work with within your financial means to ensure your success.
Tutoring Structure
Mathematics and Physical Sciences (Chemistry and Physics) Tutoring Structure:
All math courses (regardless of grade), grade 8, 9, or 10 General Science courses, grade 10, 11, or 12 Physical Science courses (whether chemistry or physics) are offered on a one – or two -hour basis. You may book a single or double hour session. For the latter, there will be a short 5-10 min break.
South African Life Science Tutoring Structure
My Life Science courses are catered for the South African Grade 11 and 12/Matric syllabi and are done in two and a half hour workshops. The rate for these workshops ends up being cheaper than the R250/hr rate and this gets even cheaper for group workshops if there are 2, 3, or 4 (maximum) students. Follow-up sessions to solidify workshop material is done for a single hour at the regular R250/hr rate.

Ontario (and other) Biology/Life Sciences Tutoring Structure:
I am still in the process of developing my approach for students who want help outside the South African syllabi in Biology/Life Sciences as my experience with other syllabi is more limited.
However I offer serious enrichment as I have an MSc degree in Conservation Ecology and am eager to share Biology/Life Sciences insights. Conditional on my assistance for such interested students is that the student MUST have many PAST TESTS and EXAMS available.
Biology/life science tutoring is actually MORE DIFFICULT than physical science (chemistry and physics) tutoring as theory and concepts are DECEPTIVELY easy when they are taught but only have their difficult conceptual nature ironed out with solving problems, problems, and MORE PROBLEMS. It is for this reason that my tutoring in the South African Context is on a two and a half hour workshop basis as much time is required to go back and forth between concepts and cementing them with lots of problem work.
I offer Tutoring Biology/Life Sciences for Ontario and other non-South-African syllabi on a 2-hourly basis for R500 contingent on suitable EXAM or TEST problems made available to me before tutoring by 48 hours minimum (preferably 1 week).
Online Tutoring Medium
All my online tutoring is facilitated using Zoom and WhatsApp or Telegram.. The former requires that you download the free version of Zoom on a laptop or a large-screen tablet. The latter needs to be available on both this same laptop/tablet AND on another device (smartphone/iPhone). WhatsApp/Telegram is crucial to facilitate the interactive nature of my tutoring (see my tutoring methodology for full explanation) for students to take pics of their work done in real time during tutoring to share with me on the group that I make for them and their parent(s)/guardian(s).
